New England 1994:
Ft. Ticonderoga & the National Muster

Picture

In 1994, Tippecanoe traveled east to visit Fort Ticonderoga and attend the National Fife and Drup Corps Muster in Waterbury, Vermont. We were honored to perform at historic Fort Ticonderoga on the shores of Lake Champlain in New York. The fort was originally built by the Compagnies Franches French marine troops and originally named Carillon. Crossing Lake Champlain we travelled across the Green Mountains to Waterbury where the host fife and drum corps, Hanaford Volunteers, honored us by selecting us one of three featured corps for their Friday evening tatoo.

One of many happy events at the National Muster was the marriage of host corps Hanaford Volunteers fifer Cathy Mullen to Scott Mandrell, an officer/fifer in the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment Band of Music. The 42nd is another fine reenactment musical group hailing, like Tippecanoe, from Lafayette, Indiana.

On our way home, we opted to travel the northern route through Canada and revisit our Compagnies Franches de la Marine comrades at the Vieux Fort on Ile Ste. Helene in Montreal, Quebec. Although the stop was very brief, the Compagnies Franches officer on duty informed us about the 1995 event in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia thus setting the stage for our 1995 tour of Nova Scotia. Thanks again!
